The pier, which was previously damaged during the 2017 hurricanes, has been rebuilt as a stronger structure measuring 80 feet long and 50 feet wide. It now provides access for tour providers, divers and snorkelers, cruise tenders, and excursion boats. The project was funded by a $2.5 million appropriation from the USVI Legislature at the request of Governor Albert Bryan Jr.

VIPA commends its Chief Wharfinger Waynia Charles, VIPD Officer Karima Liburd, and Department of Tourism's Shamari Haynes and Sharon Rosario, who rescued and assisted a cruise passenger who fell over the side of the pier in St. Croix.

Both the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas (STT) and the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix (STX) are open, and normal operations have resumed. Flights between STT and STX begin at 7 am today.

Operations at the Containerport in Krause Lagoon, St. Croix are suspended pending the inspection of a gas tank that fell at the port. Entry to the port is not allowed until further notice.

Virgin Islands Port Authority, the Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Services, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Antilles Gas confirmed that the facility is now safe for normal operations.

Inspections conducted at the facility have led to the decision to evacuate and suspend all port activities until further notice. VIPA, VI Fire and Emergency Services, and the U.S. Coast Guard are responding to the incident.

Travelers are advised to arrive at the airports in the USVI at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.

VIPA will conduct mandatory emergency drills at the King and Rohlsen airports this month. Airport operations will not be affected.

A public meeting will be held at the HERA Terminal on December 17, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the VIPA's DBE participation goal.
