The Water Spirit cargo vessel was recently prohibited from docking in Puerto Rico by the US Coast Guard and Puerto Rico Ports Authority. The VI Port Authority clarified that it has no jurisdiction over this matter.

On May 5 and 6, the paving work commenced on the West Blast Pad of the CEKA Runway. Following the paving, temporary pavement markings were applied to the new asphalt surface.


Cyril E. King Airport (STT) Runway Rehabilitation Construction Starts April 28th
The paving and rehabilitation of the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) runway is set to begin on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The paving phase of the resurfacing of the airport’s 7,000-foot runway involves milling the top three inches of the existing asphalt pavement and then applying a new three-inch layer of asphalt surface. Additionally, the project will incorporate electrical upgrades, including new LED runway and navigational lighting.


VIPA Awards Contract for Dredging of Charlotte Amalie Harbor
The Virgin Islands Port Authority Board of Governors has awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. for the dredging of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor, including the turning basin and Yacht Haven Grande Marina.


Disabled Aircraft Caused Brief Closure at St. Thomas Airport
The runway at Cyril E. King Airport was temporarily closed after a private Piper Aztec experienced a flat tire while landing during touch-and-go training maneuvers. Two people were on board the aircraft and were not injured, but the plane remained on the runway until it was removed at approximately 1:45 p.m. The Virgin Islands Port Authority reopened the runway at 1:57 p.m. after completing safety inspections.


FAA Travel Restrictions Lifted, Normal Airport Operations Resume in the USVI
Both the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas (STT) and the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix (STX) are open, and normal operations have resumed. Flights between STT and STX begin at 7 am today.
