VIPA extends condolences to the family of a traveler who passed away at CEKA yesterday and thanks the first responders for their swift action and efforts.

VIPA reminded ferry travelers about the importance of maintaining order and public safety while using the STJ/STT ferries.

The public is invited to attend a hearing to discuss proposed updates to the Virgin Islands Port Authority’s (VIPA) aviation tariff rates and charges for aeronautical users at Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX). The hearings will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on STX on July 27, STT on July 29, and STJ on July 30, 2026.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) has released a statement today regarding the Authority's public-private partnership (P3) program to develop its airports.

VIPA reminds the public that parking or staging of vehicles or equipment (trailers, ISO tanks, etc.) is not allowed along this road for safety reasons. Starting June 1, 2026, VIPA police officers will boot or tow any vehicles or equipment that violate the posted no-parking signs along the road.

The Water Spirit cargo vessel was recently prohibited from docking in Puerto Rico by the US Coast Guard and Puerto Rico Ports Authority. The VI Port Authority clarified that it has no jurisdiction over this matter.

On May 5 and 6, the paving work commenced on the West Blast Pad of the CEKA Runway. Following the paving, temporary pavement markings were applied to the new asphalt surface.

The paving and rehabilitation of the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) runway is set to begin on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The paving phase of the resurfacing of the airport’s 7,000-foot runway involves milling the top three inches of the existing asphalt pavement and then applying a new three-inch layer of asphalt surface. Additionally, the project will incorporate electrical upgrades, including new LED runway and navigational lighting.

The Virgin Islands Port Authority Board of Governors has awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. for the dredging of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor, including the turning basin and Yacht Haven Grande Marina.

The runway at Cyril E. King Airport was temporarily closed after a private Piper Aztec experienced a flat tire while landing during touch-and-go training maneuvers. Two people were on board the aircraft and were not injured, but the plane remained on the runway until it was removed at approximately 1:45 p.m. The Virgin Islands Port Authority reopened the runway at 1:57 p.m. after completing safety inspections.

Both the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas (STT) and the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix (STX) are open, and normal operations have resumed. Flights between STT and STX begin at 7 am today.

Airports in the US Virgin Islands are open, but FAA travel restrictions have canceled flights from U.S.-based air carriers. and aircrafts. Travelers are urged to contact airlines directly for flight updates.

VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe expressed his sincere appreciation for the quick response and immediate action of Compton, Freeman, and Roberts, who played a crucial role in saving lives, as well as for the support from the agencies involved in this situation.

Two projects at the CEKA runway will begin on December 1, 2025, through 2026, requiring nightly closures from 10 pm - 5 am.

VIPA will conclude its public hearings on proposed marine tariff amendments tonight at 6 PM in St. Croix at the Rohlsen Airport Terminal. Residents are encouraged to submit their feedback via email.

The USVI will welcome the first visit of Royal Caribbean International's Star of the Seas in Crown Bay, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. The ICON-class ship arrives on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at noon.

Repairs to the airport terminal's air conditioning system in St. Thomas are expected to be completed soon, providing a more comfortable experience for travelers and tenants of the King Airport in St. Thomas.

Demolition of the former Island Beachcomber Hotel will resume on Monday, May 12, 2025, and take 45 days to complete. Work will be conducted daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The new parking facility at the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas is complete and will open for paid public parking on Monday, April 28, 2025.

CEKA reopened shortly after 9 a.m. today. The airport was closed temporarily this morning for the removal of a disabled aircraft.
