VIPA Alerts Travelers of Reduced St. John-St. Thomas Car Ferry Service
The Virgin Islands Port Authority informs travelers that car ferry service between St. John and St. Thomas will be reduced from four barges to three on July 2nd and July 3rd. All four barges will resume normal schedules on Saturday, July 4th.


VIPA Announces Public Hearing to Discuss Proposed USVI Aviation Tariff Methodology for Rates and Charges
The public is invited to attend a hearing to discuss proposed updates to the Virgin Islands Port Authority’s (VIPA) aviation tariff rates and charges for aeronautical users at Cyril E. King International Airport (STT) and Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX). The hearings will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on STX on July 27, STT on July 29, and STJ on July 30, 2026.


VIPA Issues Cancryn Demolition Update
Demolition of the structures on the former Cancryn School site began June 24, 2026, and will take place Mondays through Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. No work will be conducted on Sundays or public holidays. The demolition project is anticipated to be completed by late September 2026.

VIPA Announces Strict Enforcement of No-Parking Regulations at Crown Bay Cargo Port Access Road Beginning June 1st
VIPA reminds the public that parking or staging of vehicles or equipment (trailers, ISO tanks, etc.) is not allowed along this road for safety reasons. Starting June 1, 2026, VIPA police officers will boot or tow any vehicles or equipment that violate the posted no-parking signs along the road.


VIPA Responds to Community Concerns Regarding Water Spirit Freight Services
The Water Spirit cargo vessel was recently prohibited from docking in Puerto Rico by the US Coast Guard and Puerto Rico Ports Authority. The VI Port Authority clarified that it has no jurisdiction over this matter.


VIPA Shares Latest Update on CEKA Runway Paving
On May 5 and 6, the paving work commenced on the West Blast Pad of the CEKA Runway. Following the paving, temporary pavement markings were applied to the new asphalt surface.

Cyril E. King Airport (STT) Runway Rehabilitation Construction Starts April 28th
The paving and rehabilitation of the Cyril E. King Airport (STT) runway is set to begin on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The paving phase of the resurfacing of the airport’s 7,000-foot runway involves milling the top three inches of the existing asphalt pavement and then applying a new three-inch layer of asphalt surface. Additionally, the project will incorporate electrical upgrades, including new LED runway and navigational lighting.


VIPA Announces Retirement of Executive Director Carlton Dowe, Ava Penn Named Interim Executive Director at Special Board Meeting
The Board of Governors of the Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) appointed Ms. Ava Penn as the interim executive director during a special meeting convened today in St. Croix. On March 20, VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe informed the Board of his plans to retire, with his retirement set to take effect on April 10, 2026. As Dowe is currently on leave, Penn will assume the role of Interim Executive Director starting immediately.


VIPA Awards Contract for Dredging of Charlotte Amalie Harbor
The Virgin Islands Port Authority Board of Governors has awarded a contract to Orion Marine Construction, Inc. for the dredging of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor, including the turning basin and Yacht Haven Grande Marina.


Disabled Aircraft Caused Brief Closure at St. Thomas Airport
The runway at Cyril E. King Airport was temporarily closed after a private Piper Aztec experienced a flat tire while landing during touch-and-go training maneuvers. Two people were on board the aircraft and were not injured, but the plane remained on the runway until it was removed at approximately 1:45 p.m. The Virgin Islands Port Authority reopened the runway at 1:57 p.m. after completing safety inspections.


VIPA Closes Cruz Bay Parking Lot for Food Truck Festival
Temporary Parking Lot Closure at "The Creek," Cruz Bay, St. John. Closed from March 18, 2026, for Food Truck Festival (Mar 20-22). The parking lot reopens on March 24.


Expanded Tender Landing Pier Reopens at St. Croix’s Cruise Port
The pier, which was previously damaged during the 2017 hurricanes, has been rebuilt as a stronger structure measuring 80 feet long and 50 feet wide. It now provides access for tour providers, divers and snorkelers, cruise tenders, and excursion boats. The project was funded by a $2.5 million appropriation from the USVI Legislature at the request of Governor Albert Bryan Jr.

VIPA commends its Chief Wharfinger Waynia Charles, VIPD Officer Karima Liburd, and Department of Tourism's Shamari Haynes and Sharon Rosario, who rescued and assisted a cruise passenger who fell over the side of the pier in St. Croix.

FAA Travel Restrictions Lifted, Normal Airport Operations Resume in the USVI
Both the Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas (STT) and the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport in St. Croix (STX) are open, and normal operations have resumed. Flights between STT and STX begin at 7 am today.
