FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 14, 2026
The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) was recently notified that the vessel operated by Water Spirit Freight Services VI, Inc. has been prohibited from docking in Puerto Rico by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Puerto Rico Ports Authority due to safety regulations within the San Juan harbor. This action is specific to the Port of San Juan and does not involve VIPA, as the Authority has no jurisdiction over port regulations in Puerto Rico.
VIPA recognizes that this docking restriction will significantly impact Water Spirit’s ability to continue providing cargo transportation services between Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which may, in turn, affect residents and local businesses that rely on these services. Water Spirit is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates directly to its customers as information becomes available. VIPA will also continue to share any relevant information that may assist the community regarding this matter.
