The Virgin Islands Port Authority is seeking a contractor to repair the tender pier landing at the Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility in Frederiksted St. Croix. The tender pier landing at the Abramson cruise pier is used by water tour operators and fishermen but was damaged during two Category 5 hurricanes in 2017.
Funding for this $2.05 million project was made possible via a bill submitted by Governor Albert Bryan Jr. and approved by the 34th Legislature of the Virgin Islands, which appropriates the monies from St. Croix Capital Improvement Fund. “VIPA continues to advance the completion of our Hurricane Recovery Program by repairing the last of our damaged facilities and reinforcing our ports to better withstand inclement weather. We thank the Bryan/Roach Administration and the Legislature of the Virgin Islands for their continued support and for the funding of this important project as we move towards resuming cruise visits to the territory,” said VIPA Executive Director Carlton Dowe.
A non-mandatory pre-bid meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2021, in the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Terminal’s second-floor conference room. The pre-bid meeting will be followed by a site visit to the Anne E. Abramson Marine Facility.
The complete bid package costs $50 and may be obtained on electronic media from the VIPA Purchasing Office at the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix or by calling 340-778-2830. Interested parties may pay for the packages at the cashier’s office located on the second floor of the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Terminal. Sealed proposals are due by 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2021, and must be submitted to the VIPA Purchasing Office at the Rohlsen Airport on St. Croix. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud immediately following.

The VIPA announcement about seeking a contractor for repairs at the Abramson Marine Facility’s tender pier landing highlights the importance of maintaining infrastructure that supports maritime operations. Such projects ensure safety, efficiency, and long‑term sustainability for port activities, while also creating opportunities for local contractors to contribute to regional development.
It reminds me of Fnaf, where constant vigilance and timely action are essential—just as players must repair and manage systems to survive, ports must invest in upkeep to keep operations secure and reliable.
