VIPA Issues Ports Update as Tropical Storm Fiona is Expected to Affect the USVI

The Virgin Islands Port Authority provides the following update as the US Virgin Islands prepares for inclement weather associated with Tropical Storm Fiona. Heavy rains and some winds are expected to affect the territory.

AIRPORTS

•The Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (STX) and Cyril E. King Airport (STT) are expected to be open on Friday, September 16, 2022. Airlines may opt to delay or cancel flights. Travelers are advised to contact their airline directly for flight information.

SEAPORTS

•The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has informed VIPA that all USVI seaports will close at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 16. Travelers on the island of St. John are encouraged to make arrangements to travel to St. Thomas prior to the seaport closures if they have a flight on Saturday. If the seaports are closed by the Coast Guard, they may remain closed for some time until the USCG completes its mandatory inspections. The decision to close or reopen the seaports is made by the U.S. Coast Guard (not the Virgin Islands Port Authority).

•Interisland St. John/St. Thomas ferries will be allowed to continue to operate until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 16.

•On Friday, September 16, the last Water Island Ferry departs from Water Island to the VIPA Excursion Dock at Crown Bay Center, St. Thomas at 12:15 p.m. and the last departure from St. Thomas to Water Island will be at 1 p.m.

•The QE4 Ferry service between St. Croix and St. Thomas will not operate on Friday, September 16, and will be closed until September 21.

This information is subject to change as the territory continues to monitor the storm. Follow the Port Authority on Facebook.com/usviports or Twitter.com/usviports for updates.
