The Virgin Islands Port Authority closed the Cyril E. King Airport’s only runway to facilitate the removal of a disabled aircraft today. Fly the Whale Flight 130 flew from St. Croix and landed safely at the King Airport in St. Thomas around 10:30 a.m. The aircraft’s right front tire developed a blowout while taxiing to its assigned gate causing the aircraft to become immobile. All nine passengers and the pilot reported no injuries and were safely removed from the aircraft. VIPA is removing the plane from the airfield and anticipates reopening the CEKA runway by 1:00 p.m. today. VIPA apologizes for the inconvenience as inbound and outbound flights will be delayed until the runway is reopened.
