| The Cyril E. King Airport (CEKA) is a public
airport
located on the southwestern side of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands
- approximately four miles east of the capital city, Charlotte
Amalie. The present airport was constructed in 1990 to
replaced the old naval hangar that served as the island's airport in
the 1940's. The airport was once named Bourne Field
and later named the the Harry
S. Truman Airport, in honor of the United State's 33rd elected
president.
The airport was renamed in
1984 in honor of the late Cyril Emanuel King, the 2nd elected
governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands. When the new terminal and
runway were completed in 1990, the name remained the same.

| The Henry E. Rohlsen Airport
(HERA) is
located on the southwestern side of St. Croix. The airport on
St. Croix was named Benedict Field and renamed the Alexander Hamilton Airport - in honor of
Nevis-born Hamilton who grew up on the island St. Croix.
In 1996, the airport was
named in honor of Henry E. Rohlsen in honor of his outstanding
contributions as a native-born Virgin Islands aviator, and
first African American fighter pilots. Rohlsen was
born on St. Croix and was one of two Virgin Islanders that
were a part of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II.
Rohlsen later returned to the Virgin Islands and served in
the 8th and 9th Virgin Islands Legislatures. He also
served as St. Croix's administrator from 1969 t0 1976, and
sat on various government boards and commissions. |
