When does the VIPA Governing Board of Directors meet?

Where are the U.S. Virgin Islands located?

The U.S. Virgin Islands are a territory owned by the United States of America.  The territory consists of about 50 cays and islands.  The main islands are St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas and Water Island.  The latitude and longitude measurements for the U.S. Virgin Islands are: 18 20N, 64 50W.

Are storage lockers available at VIPA's airports or marine ports?

We are sorry, due to security regulations there are no storage lockers at any of the VI Port Authority's airports or seaports.  We regret any inconveniences this may cause.

How can I arrange for a tour of VIPA facilities?

All requests for tours of VIPA facilities must be submitted in writing.  Please send your letter of request to:

My vehicle was towed. What are the fees and where is the impound lot?

How do I obtain a badge to work on VIPA property?

Applications and forms to obtain a VIPA badge are not available online.  Please contact our security offices to obtain a badge to work on VIPA property.   On St. Thomas or St. John, call (340) 774-1629 and on St. Croix call (340) 778-1012.

In the event of an emergency at any VIPA port facility (storm, accident, etc.), what must travelers do?

In the event of a storm, travelers are urged to contact their airlines, cruise line, ferry service provider, etc. directly for accurate information.  We have provided a list of tips on our Web site to prepare for a storm.

What airlines fly to St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands?

There is no airport on the island of St. John  If you are flying to the U.S. Virgin Islands and wish to visit St. John, you would first fly to Cyril E. King Airport on the nearby island of St. Thomas, USVI.  There are two ferry docks on St. Thomas which provide service to and from St. John daily: 

Option 1: The W. E. Blyden Terminal located in downtown Charlotte Amalie is about 5-7 minutes from the Cyril E. King Airport on St. Thomas.  However, the ferry ride from Charlotte Amalie to St. John is about 30 minutes.

Option 2:  The Red Hook Marine Facility is located on the eastern end of the island.  It takes about 15-25 minutes (depending on the traffic and time of day) to get from the Cyril E. King Airport (western end of the island) to the Red Hook dock (eastern end of the island).  However, the ferry ride from Red Hook to St. John is about 15 minutes.

What documents do I need to enter the U.S. Virgin Islands?

A U.S. passport is not required for direct travel within the United States of America from any of the 50 states (including Hawaii, the District of Colombia or Alaska) or any of its territories (including Guam, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa and Swains Island) to the United States Virgin Islands. 

However, if you are entering the U.S. Virgin Islands from a foreign destination, you may be required to show a U.S. passport.

Adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID that contains the following: name, date of birth, gender, expiration date and a tamper-resistant feature in order to be allowed to go through federal checkpoint and onto their flight.  Passports are an accepted form of identification but are not mandatory for domestic travel at this time.  For more information on domestic or foreign arrival requirements as it relates to your visit to the Virgin Islands, please visit http://travel.state.gov.

How early should I arrive at the airport for my departure flight?

Travelers are advised to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled flight departure time to allow adequate time to check bags and clear the security checkpoints prior to boarding.  It is a good idea to verify departure requirements and travel documents with your airline before arriving at the airport.

The Port Authority is not responsible for rules and regulations of federal agencies such as U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration, the Transportation Security Administration or the U.S. Coast Guard.  In the interest of accuracy, please refer your questions about federal regulations to the respective agencies as their mandates change from time to time:

How do I request public documents from the Port Authority?

All requests for public documents or public information should be made in writing and addressed the the Authority's executive director.

What do I need to do to host a public function (concert, art show, etc.) on Port Authority property?

To host a public function on VIPA-owned property in the US Virgin Islands:

  • A request must be made in writing addressed to the Executive Director.  Please make sure your letter contains a full description of your event and includes an address and a contact number where you may be reached.

  • Once the Executive Director has approved your event, you will be contact in writing and telephone to inform you of the approval and any associated fees for your venue.  You will also be informed of insurance requirements, and you may be required to meet with our operations and security managers to discuss the logistics of your event.

What do I need to do a film shoot at any port facility?

The VI Port Authority does not allow filming (including news broadcasts, television or movie shoots, etc.) at any of its facilities without written permission from the Executive Director.  Please send your request in writing to our public relations office:

Who do I contact to hang a sign or banner for an event at the airport or seaport terminals?

All requests to hang banners or place signs advertising events at any VIPA-owned airport or seaport terminal must be approved by the executive director.

You may submit your letter via mail, e-mail to info@viport.com or via fax at (340) 714-1492.  Your request will be processed by the public relations office.  To follow up on a submitted donation, please call the public information officer at (340) 774-1629 ext. 6639.  If your request is approved, you must submit the sign and hanging materials (rope) to our public relations office. Our staff will coordinate the hanging of your organization's signs/banners with the appropriate operations manager.  The sign or banner will be removed the day after your event occurred and returned to you. 

Note that banners and signs can only be erected by our maintenance staff Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed for local and federal holidays).  The public is not allowed to hang or place any banners or signs on Port-owned property or equipment.
